DłEA® Testing

(Dual Dynamometer Differential Effectiveness Analysis)

DłEA® testing allows aftermarket brake manufacturers to verify whether their products are consistent with the minimum United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for brake performance requirements for new passenger vehicles.

DłEA® testing is conducted with vehicle specific hardware and test conditions.   Each platform requires a unique set of test parameters and performance criteria.  Development and validation of these specific tests and criteria is a major breakthrough in laboratory evaluation of brake friction materials.

DłEA® testing does not address noise, wear or pulsation, but it does tell the customer which pads are suitable for the front brakes, and which pads or shoes are suitable for the rear brakes of a vehicle.

bullet

The front and rear brake components are tested simultaneously to measure braking performance.

bullet

The test simulates the vehicle weight and speed and measures the effectiveness of friction materials to determine their performance relative to that required by the vehicle.

bullet

Because vehicles have different brake effectiveness requirements,  DłEA® testing is available for different vehicle platform configurations.

bullet

To identify replacement disc brake friction materials meeting the DłEA® criteria, a Certification Seal has been developed and is affixed to qualified parts.

bullet

The DłEA® Certification Seal appears only on replacement friction materials which meet platform-specific criteria. This testing provides the installer and the consumer with an objective basis for deciding which friction materials should be installed on a given vehicle.
